AAU Affiliation
The Classical Academy of Arms is registered as a member club of the Amateur Athletic Union. This provides us with a background check for our members resident in the United States as well as practice insurance for any in-person clinics that we may conduct. To insure that all background checks are completed to the same standard, we require all members and students of the Academy who reside in the United States to maintain AAU membership. AAU membership is based on membership year starting on 1 September and ending on 31 August of the following year.
Current AAU membership fees are:
- Youth membership – $14.00
- Non-Athlete Adult members (for coaches, instructors, etc.) – $16.00
Details of the membership categories, costs, etc. are available on the AAU’s website.
Note that AAU membership does not conflict with or substitute for the need for USA Fencing membership and insurance coverage for participation in USA Fencing competition. For our purposes AAU insurance covers AAU events only.
Applying for AAU Membership
To apply for AAU membership go to AAU’s membership application page. The membership form is straight-forward, but read each item carefully and proof read your answers to the questions.
Where the form asks for Club Code enter W3Y34E, the club code for the Classical Academy of Arms.
Because the AAU requires a new membership for each membership year, we suggest that you print a copy of your completed form, and retain it for reference in completing next year’s membership.
When your membership and background screening are complete, you will receive information on how to download your paper membership card. Do so and keep it in a safe place as it provides your membership number.
